La Galerie Dior and the Azzedine Alaïa Foundation are presenting a joint exhibition highlighting the figure of Azzedine Alaïa (1935-2017), a passionate collector and admirer of Christian Dior.
Upon arriving in Paris, Azzedine Alaïa was hired by Dior, where he discovered the atmosphere of a House in full swing, and of which he kept wonderful memories. In the late 1960s, he began building up a significant heritage collection, including 600 unique pieces either created by Christian Dior or dreamed up by one of his successors, from Yves Saint Laurent to John Galliano.
Based on this exceptional ensemble, hitherto never shown to the public, the exhibition* at La Galerie Dior explores both the tastes of the founding-couturier and the elements constituting his style.
In parallel, the Azzedine Alaïa Foundation is proposing a unique presentation of the works of these two “masters of couture” at its Paris venue**. Side by side, the models reveal a series of correspondences between Christian Dior and Azzedine Alaïa.
A dual itinerary offering a renewed reading of the House of Dior’s history through the eyes of a collector.
