In Praise of Intimacy as an Art de Vivre

Presented at the musée du Louvre in what were once the summer apartments of Anne of Austria, Queen of France, the Louis Vuitton Spring-Summer 2026 collection is a celebration of the art of living. More specifically, a celebration of intimacy and the boundless freedom of the private sphere.

The lineup expresses a high degree of sartorial freedom and a certain stylistic liberation. It suggests inventiveness, a subversion of the principles and functions typically associated with an “indoor” wardrobe.

The journey around my apartment is an exploration of the archetypes of genre, in which clothes speak in confidences, revelations of a perspective and a manifesto of individuality. One of the House’s many journeys, all guided by the cardinal principle of carrying one’s way of being wherever one travels.

Valuing intimacy, an exercise in intrinsic courtesy as an art of living. The ultimate luxury of dressing for oneself and revealing one’s true personality.

The Spring-Summer 2026 collection is revealed in the summer apartments once occupied by Anne of Austria, Queen of France, the mother of Louis XIV. Here, the scenographer and designer Marie-Anne Derville has composed a contemporary apartment using a selection of furniture and creations from several eras spanning works by the artist Robert Wilson; the 18th-century master cabinetmaker Georges Jacob; the Art Deco seats by Michel Dufet from the 1930s; sculptures by the 19th-century ceramist Pierre-Adrien Dalpayrat and furniture she designed herself. An immersion into French taste from the 18th century to present day.

Music composed by Tanguy Destable reprises lyrics from This Must Be the Place by David Byrne of Talking Heads, read by Cate Blanchett.
